This is physical work. You’ll spend your days on ladders, inside crawl spaces, and on rooftops – camera in hand, brush spinning, soot on your forearms. At the end of the day you can point to something: a clean flue, a cracked crown that’s been properly repaired, a homeowner who now understands what was wrong and why it’s fixed. That’s the job. We run it with the same discipline we ask customers to expect from us – written prices before work starts, uniformed crews, guaranteed repairs, no shortcuts. If that sounds like your kind of place to build a career, keep reading.
Who We’re Looking For
- Chimney Sweep Technician: The core of what we do – someone who takes pride in a thorough clean and doesn’t cut corners when the camera goes up the flue.
- Chimney Inspector: Detail-oriented and calm under pressure, able to read what they see in a camera feed and explain it plainly to a homeowner standing right there.
- Chimney Repair Technician / Installer: Comfortable with liner systems, masonry, and trade-grade materials like DuraFlex, HeatShield, and Gelco – and precise enough to stand behind work with a written one-year guarantee.
- Lead Technician / Crew Lead: Experienced in the trade (or ready to grow into the role) who can run a job site, train a newer tech, and make sure every call closes to The Garrison Standard.
- Field Apprentice: No experience required – just reliable, physically capable, and genuinely interested in learning a skilled trade from the ground up.
- Dispatcher / Customer Service Representative: The person who answers when a homeowner calls at 9 p.m. – clear, calm, and good at setting accurate expectations without overpromising.
What We Offer
Real Training and a Clear Path Forward
We don’t hand you a brush and a work order on day one. New technicians and apprentices go through structured, hands-on training alongside experienced crew members before they run calls independently. The trade has a real learning curve – liner systems, crown work, camera inspection, chimney fire and carbon monoxide basics – and we take that seriously. Techs who put in the work have a clear path from apprentice to lead, and we’d rather promote from inside than hire from outside.
Work You Can Actually Be Proud Of
Flint Chimney Sweep runs on a set of values we call the Garrison Code: show up in the window we gave, put the price in writing before any work starts, do it by the book the first time, leave the site clean and squared away, and stand behind the work for a full year. That’s not a brochure. It’s how the jobs actually run. When you work here, you’re not being pushed to upsell something a homeowner doesn’t need – you’re being asked to diagnose honestly and do the job right.
Local Crew, National Backing
Each Flint location is independently operated, which means you’re part of a real local crew that knows the area. At the same time, you’re backed by the Garrison Partners family, which has been in this trade since 2002. That means access to professional-grade materials – DuraFlex, HeatShield, Gelco, Olympia Chimney, Famco, Copperfield – and systems that work, not improvised solutions on every call. You get the feel of a local shop with the support of an organization that’s been doing this a long time.
Steady, Year-Round Demand
Chimneys don’t take summers off. Inspection season runs before burning season, sweep work fills the calendar through fall and winter, and repair work comes in twelve months a year. This isn’t seasonal patchwork – it’s a trade with consistent demand. Homeowners who found out the hard way what a dirty flue or a cracked liner costs aren’t hard to convince that regular service matters.
No Experience? Read This.
If you’ve done HVAC work, roofing, general construction, plumbing, or any trade that involves working with your hands in tight or elevated spaces, more transfers than you’d think. You already understand how systems fit together, why tolerances matter, and what it costs to redo a job that wasn’t done right the first time.
What we’ll teach you: chimney anatomy, flue inspection technique, liner systems including how to work with materials like DuraFlex and HeatShield, camera operation, and the safety fundamentals that apply to every single call – especially around carbon monoxide and fire risk. The first months are structured. You’ll work alongside an experienced tech before running calls alone. We’re not looking for someone who already knows everything. We’re looking for someone who shows up, pays attention, and does the work properly. That part we can’t teach, but the rest we can.
