Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed
Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Why Flint Chimney Sweep Is Contra Costa Centre’s Preferred Chimney Sweep Company
Flint Chimney Sweep has been operating since 2002 as part of the Garrison Partners family of independently owned chimney service companies. What that means for a homeowner in Contra Costa Centre is simple: every job gets a written price before work starts, every repair carries a 365-Day Done Right Promise, and the phone is answered by a human being around the clock. You will not get a voicemail tree, a callback form, or a quote that changes at the door.
Our technicians are background-checked and uniformed. When you book a sweep in Contra Costa Centre, you know exactly who is walking through the door and what they are there to do. Hank Delano, who leads our crews, runs every job against the same standard: document the scope, price it plainly, do the work, and stand behind it in writing. That is the Garrison Standard, and it applies to every visit we make in this city.
We handle Chimney Sweep work, chimney inspections, and chimney repairs. For Contra Costa Centre specifically, that means we understand the mild Diablo Valley climate, the housing stock around Executive Park Terrace and the office-campus adjacent neighborhoods, and the way local fireplaces tend to sit dormant for long stretches. That local knowledge matters when we are deciding whether a chimney actually needs work or can safely wait.
Chimney Cleaning in Contra Costa Centre
Chimney Cleaning in Contra Costa Centre is what most people mean when they call us for a sweep. The job involves removing soot, creosote, and any debris (bird nests, leaves, rust flakes) from the flue, smoke chamber, and damper area so the chimney drafts properly and burns safely. In Contra Costa Centre, we regularly find that fireplaces go years between uses, which means the creosote that does form is often first-degree: light, dusty, and easy to remove before it becomes a problem.
A standard chimney cleaning in Contra Costa Centre runs $189 – $329 for a single flue. We put that number in writing before any work begins. If we find something the sweep alone cannot fix, such as a rusted-through chimney cap or a seized damper, we will show you the photo evidence and give you a separate written price for the repair. You approve it or you do not. There is no pressure either way.
Creosote and Soot Removal
Creosote removal is the core of the job. Left alone, creosote is what fuels chimney fires. In Contra Costa Centre’s milder climate, we see less third-degree glazed creosote than colder inland markets, but any amount is worth removing during an annual sweep.
Annual Sweep Scheduling
Most Contra Costa Centre homeowners do best with a sweep once a year, even if they only burn a handful of fires. The NFPA 211 standard calls for an annual inspection regardless of burn frequency. Our techs will tell you plainly if your chimney could safely go longer.
Fireplace Cleaning in Contra Costa Centre
Fireplace Cleaning in Contra Costa Centre goes a step further than the flue work alone. This is the full job: clearing ash and debris from the firebox, cleaning the grate, wiping down the smoke shelf, and making sure the damper opens and closes without resistance. In Contra Costa Centre, where fireplaces sit unused for months at a time, we often find hardware issues (a sticky damper, surface rust on the firebox floor) before we find any real creosote buildup.
A fireplace cleaning bundled with the flue sweep typically runs $229 – $379 in Contra Costa Centre, depending on the size of the firebox and the condition of the damper assembly. The price is set before we start. Ask about it when you call.
Damper and Firebox Condition
A damper that will not fully close is a year-round energy loss, not just a winter nuisance. We check it on every fireplace cleaning. If it needs freeing or replacement, you get a written quote and the decision is yours.
Post-Cleaning Photo Report
Every sweep and fireplace cleaning includes a camera inspection and a photo report. You see what we saw: before and after. No one should have to take a chimney company’s word for work they cannot easily verify.
Trusted Brands We Service in Contra Costa Centre
We work with professional-grade chimney materials from HeatShield, Gelco, and Olympia Chimney, and we specify them by job, not by margin. That means if your Contra Costa Centre chimney needs a flue resurfacing job, we will quote HeatShield cerfractory material because it is the right fit for the liner, not because it is convenient for us. The same goes for Gelco chimney caps and Olympia Chimney components. Parts are ordered to spec for your specific flue dimensions and installed by a technician who has done this before. You will never get a generic, one-size-fits-most repair from us.
Common Chimney Sweep Problems We See in Contra Costa Centre Homes
- Rusted or dislodged chimney caps. Contra Costa Centre sits in the sheltered Diablo Valley corridor, but winter wind still moves through. Caps get knocked loose or rust through, and that opening lets birds and rain straight into the flue. A Level 2 inspection catches it before the damage compounds.
- Seized dampers from long idle stretches. When a fireplace goes two or three seasons without a fire, the damper hardware tends to rust in place. We free them during a standard sweep, but if the metal is too far gone, you will see a photograph and a written replacement price before any work continues.
- Bird nests and debris in the smoke chamber. We pulled up to a two-story home off Executive Park Terrace where the fireplace had not been lit in three seasons. The smoke chamber was packed with a starling nest and a small cap of first-degree creosote. The liner was intact (visible on the Level 2 camera), but the cap had rusted loose. We cleared the debris, freed the damper, and refastened the cap. No fire, but real work that the owner could have deferred safely to fall if they had preferred.
- First-degree creosote hiding in plain sight. Because Contra Costa Centre’s mild climate means many fireplaces go years between fires, a full load of creosote can collect in total silence. The annual NFPA 211 inspection, not visible smoke, is what catches it.

A standard chimney sweep in Contra Costa Centre runs $189 – $329 for a single flue. Fireplace cleaning bundled with the sweep runs $229 – $379. A Level 1 inspection (the visual check done during a routine sweep) is typically $99 – $149 when booked on its own; a Level 2 camera inspection runs $249 – $399 and is what we recommend if you have never had the chimney inspected or if you are buying or selling a Contra Costa Centre home.

FAQs About Chimney Sweep in Contra Costa Centre
Yes, in most cases you need an annual inspection even if you almost never burn. The NFPA 211 standard calls for a yearly inspection regardless of how often the fireplace is used. In Contra Costa Centre specifically, rarely used chimneys are exactly the ones where we find bird nests, rusted dampers, and debris that accumulated silently over two or three idle seasons. A sweep is cheap insurance, and if your chimney is actually clean, we will tell you that plainly and charge you only for the inspection. Call (830) 251-4560 to schedule.
We run brushes through the flue to remove creosote and soot, clear the smoke chamber and damper area, and clean the firebox if you booked fireplace cleaning. Then we run a camera up the flue and show you the photo report before and after. The whole job takes 60 – 90 minutes for a single flue, and the price was already locked in writing before we started. Nothing gets recommended beyond the sweep without photographic evidence.
Once a year is the right cadence. Burning a couple of fires a month through the winter in Contra Costa Centre will produce mostly first-degree creosote, which is light and easy to remove. If you are consistent with annual sweeps, you should not see the heavier second- or third-degree buildup that causes real trouble. We will tell you if your burn pattern means you could stretch it to eighteen months, but the default recommendation is annual.
Yes. Our technicians can see and identify third-degree, glazed creosote with a camera inspection. It is hard, shiny, and fused to the flue walls, and it does not come off with standard brushing. If we find it during a Contra Costa Centre sweep, you will see it in the photo report, and we will give you a written quote for the proper removal method. No guesswork, no scare-selling. Call (830) 251-4560 if you suspect it is a problem.
No, we do not promise same-day service, and we would rather be straight about it. If you have an urgent issue, such as water coming in around the chimney or an animal in the flue, call us and we will figure out the fastest safe path. Call (830) 251-4560.
