Famco Chimney Sweep Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

Famco Chimney Sweep in Los Angeles: What to Know First

A Famco chimney sweep in Los Angeles typically runs $189 – $289 for a standard open-flue fireplace in good condition, with most jobs completed in 60 – 90 minutes. We’re an independent Famco service provider – not the manufacturer – and we work on every Famco chimney cap, damper, and termination fitting we encounter in LA homes. We’ll give you a written price before any tools come off the truck, and every sweep includes a basic Level 1 inspection so you know what condition your flue is actually in. Call (830) 251-4560 and a live person answers, day or night.

This page is written for Famco owners in Los Angeles who want to know what a sweep involves, what it costs, and whether their chimney has a problem that needs more than a cleaning. Hank Delano, our owner, has worked Los Angeles chimneys his whole career. He’ll tell you exactly what he sees, which is why we built this page the way we’d talk to you on a job site.

How Famco Products Fail – and How We Fix Them

  • Famco multi-flue chimney caps clog with creosote and soot faster than single-flue caps. We see this on Famco’s square and rectangular multi-flue cap models, common on mid-century Los Angeles homes with two fireplaces sharing one masonry chase. The expanded metal screening that keeps birds out also traps combustion particles. Within two burning seasons, the screen can be 40 – 60% blocked. We remove the cap, clean the screening with a wire brush, and re-seat it. If the screen is rusted through, we quote a replacement cap before we start, not after.
  • Famco dampers stick open or closed after heavy use. Famco cast-iron and steel throat dampers wear at the pivot points, especially in the San Gabriel Valley foothills where temperature swings between cold mornings and hot afternoons work the metal loose. A damper that won’t close lets conditioned air escape year-round, and one that won’t open means smoke rolls into the room. During a sweep we exercise the damper, clean the pivot points, and tell you if it’s serviceable or needs replacement. You’ll know before we do any work.
  • Famco caps with riveted seams loosen over time. This is more of a wind issue than a fire issue. Los Angeles gets steady onshore flow and Santa Ana gusts. Famco caps with riveted corners, not welded, can wiggle at the joints after years of thermal expansion. You’ll hear a metallic rattle near the top of the chimney on windy nights. We re-rivet or replace the cap during a sweep visit if you’re hearing that sound. Most Famco caps can be re-riveted, which costs less than replacement.
  • Famco spark arrestor screens catch more than sparks. Famco builds screens to meet SFM (State Fire Marshal) standards, and that means fine mesh. In Los Angeles, that mesh picks up ash, dust, and the occasional ember. If you burn a lot of oak or mesquite – available everywhere in LA – creosote cakes onto the screen surface. We have the Famco cap removed and the screen cleaned properly on every sweep where a cap is present. A cap left dirty is a cap that quits venting.
  • Famco liners and connectors (installed brand, not our doing) can shift after seismic activity. This is a Los Angeles reality. We inspect Famco stainless steel liners and connector pipe on every sweep. After a quake, even a small one, liner sections can separate or tilt. That creates a gap where heat and exhaust can reach combustible framing. A sweep won’t fix that, but a Level 2 inspection will show it. We always check for separation when we’re in the flue and we’ll show you photos if something looks wrong.

Our Famco Chimney Sweep Process

  1. 1
Call and book. You call (830) 251-4560. A live person picks up, asks about your fireplace or stove, and schedules a time that works. You get a written price before we arrive or before we start – your call.
  2. 2
Arrival and floor protection. We show up in uniform, drop cloths go down from the front door to the fireplace, and tools stay on the cloths. Your floors don’t see our boots.
  3. 3
We inspect before we clean. We look at your Famco cap, damper, and firebox first. If something’s broken, we show you before we touch it. You decide what happens next.
  4. 4
The sweep itself. We run the proper size brush for your flue – not a one-size-fits-all – and clean from the firebox up or the cap down, depending on your setup. Creosote and soot collect in sealed bags, not on your hearth.
  5. 5
After the sweep, we recheck. We check the damper again, the cap, and the termination. If something needs repair, we give you a written price with the brand of part we’re using – OEM Famco where we can get it, quality aftermarket where OEM isn’t available or isn’t anymore.
  6. 6
Cleanup and the guarantee. We leave the space the way we found it, show you the before-and-after photos, and give you a written guarantee on any repair work we did. One full year. If a covered repair fails, we return at no charge.

What Famco Chimney Sweep Costs in Los Angeles

A standard Famco chimney sweep in Los Angeles runs $189 – $289. That covers an open-flue fireplace or wood stove in good condition. If the Famco cap or termination needs to come off for cleaning – and we recommend that on every sweep – it adds $40 – $75, though we include it when the cap is accessible from the roof. A Level 2 inspection runs $150 – $300 depending on chimney height and roof pitch. If the sweep turns up a cracked flue liner, a failed Famco damper, or a cap that needs replacement, the repair is quoted separately. You approve every dollar before we spend it. Why Los Angeles Homeowners Call Flint Chimney Sweep for Famco Work

We’re part of the Garrison Partners family, founded in 2002, and we operate under The Garrison Standard. That means a 365-Day Done Right Promise on every repair, in writing. If a covered repair fails within one full year, we come back at no charge and no argument. Our technicians are background-checked and uniformed. Every invoice is a written price you approved before work started. And because we work with Famco, DuraFlex, HeatShield, and Gelco, we don’t push a brand that doesn’t fit your chimney. When Hank Delano first started doing chimney work in Los Angeles, he learned to explain what he saw in plain words. That’s still how we run every call.
